Moore Park South: a new park for the community
A vibrant new park for Sydney with space to exercise, socialise, relax and connect with nature.
A new public park is now open to the community, while works continue to deliver the NSW Government’s vision for Moore Park South.
Located close to one of Australia’s most densely populated urban areas, Moore Park South provides new open space for the 690,000 people living within 5 kilometres of the park.
While the broader Moore Park South transformation is scheduled for completion in 2028, visitors can already enjoy picnic areas, a temporary fenced dog off-leash area, seating, food and beverage options and a host of recreation activities.
Once works are completed, Moore Park South will be home to community sports facilities, walking and cycling paths, a nature playground, natural open areas and a revitalised golf offer.

How to get there
Works to improve access to Moore Park South will be carried out between July and September 2026. During this time, visitors will be able to access the new park from:
- Dacey Avenue
- South Dowling Street
- Reschs Bridge link to Redfern

What's on in September
School holiday programs Weekdays, 28 September - 9 October | Visit the Greater Sydney Parklands education team to play oversized boardwalk games, meet furry visitors at our petting zoo, and help shape the park’s first pop-up play areas. All free of charge. View full itinerary. |

| Dog off-leash areas | Dogs can enjoy 2 designated off-leash areas within the park. A temporary fenced off-leash area is located on the southern side of the park, featuring seating, bins and drinking water. An additional unfenced off-leash area is available near the Reschs Bridge entrance. Owners are reminded to follow all signage and ensure their dogs remain under effective control. |

Dogs at Moore Park South
As Moore Park South continues to evolve, we're monitoring how different areas of the park are being used and listening to feedback from the community. This ongoing feedback, combined with our observations of park use, has informed adjustments to our approach to dog access across the park.
To provide more opportunities for off-leash recreation, we've expanded the fenced dog off-leash area along Dacey Avenue and introduced a new unfenced off-leash area near Reschs Bridge. Existing off-leash areas at Mount Steel and Bat and Ball Field surrounds also remain available, along with Bat and Ball Field outside the hours when organised sport is taking place. It’s important to remember that, even when off-leash, dogs must always remain under effective control. More information can be found at controlling dogs in public places.
All other areas of Moore Park South are on-leash zones. This approach reflects strong community support for dedicated off-leash spaces while balancing the needs of other park users and protecting biodiversity and wildlife. On-leash areas help protect habitat and provide places where visitors can relax, picnic, exercise, play sport, or simply enjoy the park without interacting with dogs.
As the transformation project progresses, dog access arrangements will evolve to reflect changing park conditions and community needs. Dog owners should be aware that Moore Park South will be an active construction site over the next 2 years and allowing dogs off-leash is at the owner's own risk.
Clear signage throughout the park identifies where dogs can be off-leash and where they must be kept on a leash. Please follow all signage to help ensure Moore Park South remains a safe, welcoming and enjoyable space for everyone.
Avian Flu and dogs
As the H5N1 avian flu outbreak continues, it’s important to know dogs can become infected with the H5N1 virus if they bite or eat an infected bird.
If you see a sick or dead bird within one of our parks, please do not touch it or get too close and keep your dog well away. Note your location and report sick or dead birds or other animals to the 24-hour Emergency Animal Disease Hotline on 1800 675 888.
