Moore Park South: a new parkland for the community
Works are now underway to open Moore Park South to the community, with the first stage of the transformation focused on enabling safe public access to 20 hectares of new parkland, alongside an active golf precinct.
The NSW Government is transforming 20 hectares of public land at Moore Park South into a vibrant new park for Sydney, with community sports facilities and a 12-hole public golf course, close to one of Australia’s most densely populated urban areas.
With 690,000 people living within 5 kilometres of Moore Park South - and rising to 790,000 by 2041 - the new park and golf offer will support the recreational needs of a rapidly growing local community.
Published in May 2026, the final Moore Park South Establishment Plan outlines priorities for the new park and golf offer which has been informed by extensive community consultation over 2 years.
Early access works have commenced to prepare the new parkland to open to the public from mid-July and include the installation of fencing between the golf precinct and parkland, and removal of the perimeter fence along South Dowling Street and Dacey Avenue.
New access points will enable entry to the park from Dacey Avenue, South Dowling Street, Reschs Bridge and Mount Steel between July and September.
When the first areas of parkland open to the public in mid-July, the community will be able to enjoy a range of activations and amenities, including:
- an off-leash dog area with fencing and water supply
- informal seating within the parkland
- picnic tables
- a food and beverage offering available from the Golf House, including picnic boxes.
Active recreation activities will also begin from July, including a run club and other health and wellbeing activities organised out of the Toll House, with further events and programs to be rolled out in the coming months.
Final establishment plan
With works scheduled to be completed in 2028, the final establishment plan focuses on delivering new community sport and recreation facilities, alongside a revitalised golf offering. This balanced approach responds directly to community needs and provides for a range of activities and users.
Key features of the final establishment plan include:
- a revitalised golf offer featuring a 12-hole public golf course, designed in collaboration with a respected golf architect, expanded driving range with up to 90 bays, 18-hole mini golf course, plus putting and chipping greens
- a mix of active and passive recreation opportunities with a community sports field, multi-purpose sports courts, outdoor fitness equipment and natural open areas
- picnic spaces with barbecues
- nature playground in a centrally located area
- designated on- and off-leash areas for dogs
- a connected pedestrian path network which will improve access to key destinations within the park, linking it to surrounding neighbourhoods, including Moore Park East, the Entertainment Quarter and Centennial Park
- a park design that works with the existing landscape to enhance and support biodiversity and habitat creation, through the planting of native grasses, shrubs and trees.

Next steps
The final establishment plan will continue to be developed through detailed design to support statutory approvals ahead of delivery.
The NSW Government has committed $50 million to establish the 20-hectare park and 12-hole golf course. With establishment works now underway, the community will be kept updated on changes to Moore Park South access during construction.
Golf will continue at Moore Park South with a minimum 9-hole golf offering available for golfers to play at all stages of transformation works, until the new 12-hole public course is officially opened.

Changes to the design of the new public park and golf offer were informed by feedback from the community, and aim to balance recreation, safety, access and protection of the natural and cultural values of Moore Park.
Changes include:
- The length of the reconfigured course has increased from 9 to 12 holes, improving the flow of play, removing bottlenecks, and enhancing safety for park users and golfers.
- The nature playground has been relocated away from South Dowling Street to a more central area of the park.
- The community sports field has been relocated to minimise tree removal and better complement the park’s landscape.
- The main connector path has been repositioned to ensure the safety of park users alongside an active golf precinct.
- Recreational loop paths have been improved, with connector paths at key entry points making it easier to access and explore the park.
The new public park is scheduled for completion in 2028.
