Parking and access at Callan Park

We're improving parking, access and traffic management at Callan Park to support visitors and protect parkland.

Making parking at Callan Park safer and easier

We’re making changes to parking, access and traffic management at Callan Park to improve safety, make it easier to get around and protect this important public space.

These changes are part of the recently released Callan Park Plan of Management and the Access, Movement and Parking Strategy, which guide how the park will be managed into the future. Community feedback on the draft Callan Park Foreshore Master Plan and Stage 1 Bay Run Upgrade is also helping to shape the final plans.

Changes to Waterfront Drive

By the end of 2026, Waterfront Drive will be closed to vehicles to improve safety and create a better experience for people walking, running and cycling along the Bay Run.
To support this change:

  • Bollards and temporary signage will be installed from early December.
  • Existing parking spaces on Waterfront Drive will be relocated to an asphalt area on Supply Road, which will be line-marked to provide temporary parking for up to 70 vehicles.
  • A new pedestrian path will connect the temporary car park to Military Drive.
  • Accessible parking spaces and drop-off areas will be provided near Repatriation Ward B (B497).

A new permanent car park on Wharf Road is planned for the future, subject to funding.

We have carefully assessed parking demand and will continue to listen to community feedback as temporary parking arrangements are introduced.

Changes to the Balmain Road car park

Timed parking restrictions were introduced at the Balmain Road car park in September to address concerns about long-term vehicle, boat and trailer storage.

These changes were introduced to:

  • Improve safety and access for visitors.
  • Ensure parking remains available for park users.
  • Help manage the car park more effectively.

Warning notices were provided before the restrictions came into effect and parking limits are now enforceable.

Looking ahead

More parking and access improvements will be rolled out over the coming months as we continue to implement the Access, Movement and Parking Strategy.

These changes will help improve traffic management, protect Callan Park’s heritage landscape and ensure the park remains safe, accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

This page will be updated regularly as more information becomes available. We are committed to delivering these changes with minimal disruption to park users and the local community.

Improving your roads

We’ve invested more than $1 million in essential path and road maintenance across Callan Park, including Cottage Way, Wharf Rd and the Balmain Rd carpark entrance.

These works improve safety, accessibility and the overall experience for park visitors.

Did you know learner drivers are restricted in Callan Park?

We know people are looking for familiar places to learn to drive, however it’s important to be aware that learner driver restrictions apply in Callan Park, as they do in Centennial Park, Moore Park and Parramatta Park.

This means teaching a person to drive or ride a motor vehicle within the park grounds is not permitted.

Our rangers regularly patrol the park and will remind visitors of these requirements when necessary to help ensure the park remains a safe and enjoyable place for everyone.
