Guided workshop

Learn how listening to birds can deepen your understanding of nature and place.

This one‑day workshop is designed for people seeking a more focused, skill‑building approach to nature connection. Andrew teaches practical methods for noticing and interpreting bird sounds and behaviour, showing how different calls reveal information about environment, species diversity, ecosystem health and seasonal change.

Guided listening and simple outdoor exercises help you build transferable observation skills you can apply well beyond the day. The workshop also explores how bird alarms once supported human survival, why rebuilding these awareness skills benefits wellbeing, and how the Gondwanan rainforests of eastern Australia shaped the evolution of songbirds.

Participants begin a take‑home local nature calendar that goes beyond the four‑season model and supports ongoing, place‑based practice.

Suitable for adults seeking deeper nature connection or professional development in nature awareness. No prior birding experience required.
