History of the equestrian centre

The Centennial Parklands Equestrian Centre has a long connection with Sydney’s equestrian history. The site was formerly part of the Royal Agricultural Society’s Royal Easter Show grounds at Moore Park.

After 115 years at Moore Park, the Royal Agricultural Society relocated to Homebush Bay in 1997 and the site became part of Centennial Parklands.

The Equestrian Centre officially opened to the public in June 1998 following more than $10 million in upgrades, new stables and heritage restoration. This included construction of the 75 m × 40 m covered Main Arena, with the Support Arena later also receiving a roof.

Today, the Equestrian Centre combines this sense of history and tradition with a vibrant working equestrian community. It is home to riding schools, equine businesses and privately leased stables, and provides accommodation and facilities for almost 200 horses.
