Audio transcript

Bunnul Marray.

In Dharug dalang (Dharug language), bunnul means ‘sunshine’ and marray means ‘wet’.

When the sun is at its peak, as big as the sky, mugadung (the blue tongue lizard) is active across the landscapes, bringing energy and new life.

Mugadung is also known as the sleepy lizard.

Mugadung are important to many Aboriginal and First Nations cultures.

There is a story about the Brown Snake and the Blue-tongue Lizard which is taught to children which explains that intelligence is more important than size.

As you walk, the cicadas and their song keep you company. Watch out for the wandering butterflies as they flitter from flower to flower.
