Early childhood, primary (K-6) and community education. A minimum of 10 participants is required.

In bush craft: creative practices, participants will explore how to introduce children to essential bushcraft skills, fostering creativity, problem-solving, and a deeper connection to nature.

The course emphasises the safe introduction of risk, supporting children’s development through engaging, hands-on experiences in the outdoors.

Educators will learn how to guide children through bushcraft activities that build resilience and resourcefulness. Whether it’s creating simple tools, making rope, or exploring water collection, this workshop equips you with adaptable skills that encourage nature-based learning while supporting the principles of nature pedagogy.

Key activities include:

  • Understanding how bushcraft supports nature play and outdoor learning, with a focus on introducing developmental risk in a safe, educational setting
  • Whittling and creating simple tools from natural materials, teaching children how to use tools responsibly
  • Making rope and cordage from foraged materials, promoting resourcefulness and problem-solving in outdoor environments
  • Crafting water collection devices and integrating them into lessons on sustainability and the natural water cycle
  • Building mini rafts to explore basic engineering and foster curiosity in outdoor settings
  • Using clay and natural treasures to encourage imaginative play and artistic expression

This workshop offers educators practical skills to create engaging, hands-on outdoor learning experiences. It supports children’s development of confidence, independence, and creativity through meaningful interactions with nature and carefully managed outdoor challenges.
